The Role

  • To work collaboratively with the Occupational Health Team and client to ensure that health surveillance is introduced wherever there is a significant residual health risk to employees
  • To undertake agreed clinical activities such as blood pressures, health promotion, drug and alcohol screen, base line screening, medicals and any other appropriate OH service that may be required by the client
  • To ensure comprehensive understanding of job roles and policies within the client organisation
  • To help educate employees on the beneficial aspects of baseline screening and health surveillance and to help them understand that health surveillance is mandatory where the risk assessment has identified the need. To advise employers where an individual refuses to under-take tests or answer medical questions
  • To ensure that the mobile unit and any clinical areas are maintained in accordance with Team Prevent standards and to liaise with the central office regarding the calibration log to ensure the effective maintenance and reliability of screening equipment 
  • To monitor stock control of consumables in line with Team Prevent policy and standards
  • To ensure compliance with fridge temperature checking and stock control protocols
  • To work within Technicians level of competency and report any results that are out of the normal range to the relevant OHA
  • To ensure that records are maintained in line with Team Prevent standards and to ensure that any feedback is factual and limited to outcome statements related to an individual’s functional ability and fitness for specific work, with any advised restrictions
  • To work with the Occupational Health team to provide grouped results against which the client organisation can assess the effectiveness of control measures
  • To ensure that a health record is established foreach individual, as distinct from the Occupational Health Clinical records in line with Team Prevent protocols
  • Participate in Health and Well Being initiatives to encourage staff to take responsibility for their health and improve working lives. Provide informed advice on healthier lifestyles, working with outside agencies where appropriate
  • Assist in the maintenance of confidential health records relating to all screening and effective recall as appropriate
  • To effectively input and recall data from the management database system (EOPAS) in accordance with the requirements of the company
  • Ensure appropriate removal of general and clinical waste
  • To ensure the mobile unit is maintained appropriately; booking the vehicle in for service at the required times, ensuring tyres are monitored, any faults or issues with the vehicle are reported to the Central Support Office and authorisation/direction obtained for corrective action
  • To comply with all aspects of the Health Support Workers code of conduct:


Person Specification

  • Participate in relevant training to maintain and develop clinical and managerial practices, taking responsibility for own personal and professional development 
  • Have undergone training in spirometry, audiometry, HAVS tier 1 and 2
  • Be aware of Health and Safety legislation and health surveillance requirements under COSHH
  • Intermediate IT skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and can build, maintain and develop business relationships
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, be a confident clinical decision maker and be able to provide advice to clients
